Zachery Ziegler earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Mathematics in three years from Wake Forest
University with minors in Computer Science and Economics. He remained
at Wake Forest and earned a Master of Art in Mathematics two years
later in 2002.
While at Wake Forest, Mr. Ziegler was
active in many different aspects of college life. He began tutoring his
sophomore year, continuing until graduating with his Masters degree.
Mr. Ziegler assisted over 70 athletes comprehend Calculus and
Statistics as well as working with additional college and high school
students in other math and computer courses.
Mr. Ziegler spent two summers of his
undergraduate career in Winston-Salem to fine-tune his punting for the
Wake Forest football team. The football program’s demanding running and
weightlifting regimen spurred him to run the Boston Marathon in 2000.
His dedication to football and academics earned him multiple ACC
Scholar Athlete awards even while graduating in three years.
Another highlight of Mr. Ziegler
staying for the summer sessions was the opportunity to assist with a
research grant in the Computer Department. He worked as a National
Science Foundation intern with several professors to develop nonlinear
optimization methods to de-blur satellite transmissions through the
atmosphere for use by the United States Military.
Mr. Ziegler began his actuarial career
in 2002 with Mercer Human Resource Consulting as an Actuarial Analyst
in the Charlotte office. He worked in the Retirement Practice
performing pension valuations and benefit calculations. He routinely
met with and advised clients regarding benefit administration and
required government filings. In addition to his consulting workload,
Mr. Ziegler had passed three actuary exams by the end of his two-year
tenure in Charlotte.
In November of 2004, Mr. Ziegler
joined MBA Actuaries, Inc. as a Senior Analyst in the Winston-Salem
office. In the P&C arena, he assists in providing actuarial
services in the areas of loss reserving, rate relativity analysis and
filings, statistical modeling, market assessment, and self-insurance
plans. In the health arena, he assists in areas spanning Small Group,
MEWA, and HSA. He has developed tools for in-depth experience analysis
and reserve reviews, as well as assisting in the review of rate
filings. Mr. Ziegler has passed three more Casualty actuarial exams
since he has joined the firm.
